The Short Version

Circularity is how accurately the digital input of a thumbstick moves in a circle.

At Battle Beaver, we use special tools to optimize for full functionality and responsiveness while establishing resistances to input errors that are introduced from wear and use over time.

This optimization in Magneto Mechs may have greater than or equal to the Circularity Error Rate of a stock controller, however, professionals have not experienced a negative impact on gameplay. 

Circularity & error rates alone should not be used to determine a controllers functionality, and and should only be a concern in extreme cases of improper recalibration or when the mechanism is worn and needs replacement.

If you absolutely must recalibrate your Magneto Mech controller once you receive it, please keep in mind that you may experience input errors and that in-game settings may need to be adjusted to compensate.

The Slightly Longer Version

Circularity is a measurement of how circular a thumbstick's movement appears based on its physical and digital boundaries. The ‘error rate’ of Circularity is represented as how far the shapes of the digital input field and the physical thumbstick hole diverge from a perfect circle. We have found the error rate to average around 6% - 9% in stock (unmodified) controllers directly from Sony and Microsoft. It is important to understand that a lower Circularity Error Rate (CER) is not necessarily better for gameplay responsiveness and inputs, but CER simply represents a thumbstick's digital and physical boundaries when compared to a perfect circle. 

We utilize special tools to recalibrate every Magneto Mech controller we build to an optimized digital boundary before shipping. We prioritize the optimization of the left stick to resist sprinting and movement errors, and the right stick to be as responsive as possible while maintaining its full range of movement. This optimization may have greater than or equal to the Circularity Error Rate of a stock controller, however, professionals have not experienced a negative impact on gameplay. In fact, they have claimed the opposite.

We hope to make our tools available soon, but if the controller is recalibrated to achieve a lower circularity error rate, some in-game settings may need adjustments to account for input errors. No controller or recalibration will be the same, so what may work for someone online, may not work for you at home.
