Spring 2021 Update

By Ivan Chau Mar 29, 21

Hello everyone!

It's been quite some time since we've done one of these, but we think it's time again for a seasonal update. If you've just joined us in the past few months you've no doubt been made aware of our much-talked about 'delays', so we'd like to give you an update on what's been happening here at the shop and maybe some previews as to what we've got planned for the Summer.

We don't always have the opportunity for transparency, but we do believe that every now and then we need to take the time to pull the curtain back a little bit and show how we do things.

This will be a bit of a longer post since there is so much to catch up on, but for those that are looking for a TL;DR --

  • At the time of this writing we have 6,500+ open orders and are sitting around an 8 week lead-time.
  • We hope that with the current round of hiring, we will be able to bring build times to less than 3-4 weeks once they are trained.
  • Wave 3 DualSense orders are still scheduled to begin production in May with a separate production queue. There were about 1,250 orders placed within 2 hours, so orders will be fulfilled as they were received.
  • We are still observing *ALL* of our COVID-19 procedures for the safety of our team members and customers.

If you're still with us, thanks for sticking around!

Germs... They're (Still) Everywhere!!!

Seriously though, while we have been able to operate during the Covid-19 pandemic, it has not been easy. Our production line does take a few beats longer to ensure everyone's safety, however it has been successful in isolating potential illness, resulting in fewer precautionary quarantine measures.

This largely affects our shipping and repairs processes more so than the actual production of the controller, so expect these services to continue to take a few extra days.

You can find all of the details on how we have handled the pandemic and  the variety of precautions and procedures we have implemented here:

We will be continuing these safety precautions for some time after the pandemic has been declared clear, and will likely continue some of these practices once the pandemic has ended.

Winter 2021 Tag Team Champions (Uri & Viola)

So back in the middle of February, nearly the entire State of Texas was impacted by the deadly one-two punch of Winter Storm Uri and Winter Storm Viola.

Thankfully none of our team members were harmed by the storms, but as a result from ice and sub-zero temperatures, we were unable to reach our facility and were closed for nearly a week and a half.

The delays we were/are experiencing, both in customer service and production, are a direct result of that closure.

We are only just recently getting the situation back under control, and are able to give an update on the situation now that we understand its scope and severity.

While our build times have been increased to approx. 8 business weeks, we have been able to restructure the office a bit to allow for additional technicians to be hired so we can bounce back from these delays as quickly as possible!

Wave 3 DualSense: Tokyo Drift

If you managed to place your pre-order for Wave 3 of our Custom DualSense controller offering, we congratulate you on being a part of the largest product introduction we have ever had!

We do sincerely apologize to all of those that missed it, but we simply could not anticipate the overwhelming demand for our new DualSense controllers. For a bit of context, both Waves 1 & 2 of our DualSense offerings were Quick Pick options that were limited to 500 and 800 controllers respectively.

For Wave 3 we wanted to open up all possible modifications to the public, allowing for as much customization we could provide at this moment. After a Twitter poll some weeks ago, we confirmed that the drop would occur on 3/12 at Noon CST. Based off of the data we collected from Waves 1 & 2, we planned on offering a total of 1,000 controllers and anticipated to leave the Wave 3 builder open for the weekend and probably hit our estimates sometime Monday.

What instead happened was everyone looking to place their Wave 3 pre-order crashed our website for about 20 minutes, and by 1pm we had about 750 pre-orders placed. We were unfortunately not prepared for this level of volume, so we made an announcement on Twitter stating that we would be closing pre-orders at 2pm, allowing for as much time as possible for orders to be placed after the announcement was made.

At the time of closing, we had approx. 1,250 pre-orders placed within those two hours that Wave 3 was available.

We are still planning on production to begin in May, and we can confirm that these orders will be processed in a separate queue from our normal order flow so that these pre-orders do not disrupt our normal custom orders.

What's Upcoming in 2021

As we get into the Summer we do plan on making our Pro and Performance Builders for the DualSense controller available permanently and folding those orders into our standard production queue.

We also have plans to offer more customization options for Next Gen controllers slated for later this year.

If you're interested in what else we'll be up to this year, drop us a follow and keep an eye on our Twitter for giveaways and news!

Thanks for reading!

If you've made it all the way down here, thanks for taking the time to read this update. While we would love to provide more updates like this with a lot more frequency, it unfortunately does take a lot of time away from other administrative duties that can't always be delayed.

If you enjoyed this update, feel free to hit us up on Twitter and let us know what you liked about it.
